“It’s a crowded market” is something the co-founders and I often hear when pitching our idea to potential partners and they aren’t wrong. Since Tinder was first launched in 2012 the number of dating sites and dating apps has grown exponentially with more players entering the market each year. So, what makes Nibble the best dating app out there and capable of getting you one step closer to saying I love you?
Nibble’s goal is to redefine how online dating and dating apps function to focus on getting people out on dates, rather than just endlessly swiping and chatting, whilst making the whole process as easy, seamless and safe as possible. Something we achieve through our eight USPs.
Our USPs weren’t all present on day one, in fact it took us eight months to go from our initial concept to finalising the last scope changes. Something I would say is you are thinking of starting your own business, is to not hold back from kicking things off just because you don’t have the perfect idea– your friends and family will undoubtedly have useful inputs and suggestions along the way and your idea will grow into a lot more than you ever expected it to be. Personally, I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who encouraged, supported and offered their ideas along the way to help make Nibble such a fantastic app.
The original concept was to match up people who wanted to take others out on dates with individuals who had no plans, and to make this process easy for everyone involved, Nibble would suggest the best destination recommendations (based on taste preferences and location) so they could be sure of enjoying themselves in a fun and safe public place. This grew into our recommendations feature and the “available today” USP which is a core focus of our app and one of my favourites. The user operates it by tapping in as available for that day, and Nibble will then show you everyone else who has tapped in and is looking to go on a date that very day – be it because work finished early, a friend had to postpone plans, or they just have an urge to go on a date!
As we begun to move further down the road, we had an investors catch up where we ended up brainstorming ideas and added two more USPs:
- Our SOS feature – one of our key safety features which allows users to receive a fake call immediately or in 2 mins time if they ever feel uncomfortable, thereby giving them an excuse to leave
- Reliability ratings – with Nibble the date invite goes first before opening up into a chat function (once the invite is accepted). Therefore, we realised it was imperative we made users feel confident their date was going to be there on time as they will likely have spent less time communicating before the first date (something we see as a good thing as everyone is at their most genuine in person!). Our solution to this was to give everyone a five-star uber style reliability rating which goes up if you go on a date and turn up on time, or down if you cancel last minute, turn up very late or don’t turn up at all (each affecting your rating different amounts)
Our final significant development was a change in how we integrated restaurants, bars and entertainment venues. Now when you swipe through profiles of individuals, you also get occasional profiles for potential date locations who we’re partnered with. You can add these to the saved places section of your profile by swiping right either to try at a later time yourself or for a potential date to view and invite you to! We also started to build profiles for each of our recommendations so you can tap in and see some more information about where we are recommending so you can be sure it’s 100% right for you.
So that is 9 months summarised in 600 words, a brief skip over what we have been doing so far. We will of course be sharing more blogs as we go along so keep your eyes peeled.
